Del, In my last email, I talked about the importance of winning seats to keep the Democratic agenda at bay. My bill, HB16-1138, had the potential to properly fund our transportation needs, including maintenance to our highways and bridges and expansion projects that would have secured our tourism and agriculture industry. Transportation has been severely underfunded for many years and the Democratic House Majority knows it. Instead of Democrats supporting this bill and working with Republicans, they proposed raising gas taxes again and killing the bill leaving us with a bridge to nowhere. The truth is, this problem is larger than a much-needed transportation bill. Although our roads and bridges are in dire need of funding for repair, there is a much larger issue that needs to be addressed. The root issue is a Democratic leadership in the House that wants to fund ineffective social programs to appeal to their voter base. They abuse their power by using bureaucracy to bury the issues they would rather not address and use flimsy excuses to cover it up. We have seen this happen time and time again over the course of their majority. November is coming up quickly, which can mean a real shake-up of the House and Senate in Colorado. In order to get this and many other conservative bills through our legislature, we will need a majority in both houses. As your legislator, I can only promise to do what I have always done: work tirelessly on your behalf and bring real results back to HD59. I am seeking re-election to take the values we have on the Western Slope and make them heard in Denver. My seat is one of the most important seats up for election this year, and I hope you will consider supporting my campaign. You can click here to donate $10, $25, $50 or $100. Your donation is greatly appreciated, and will help you and I ensure a more prosperous future in Southwest Colorado. Sincerely, J. Paul Brown HD 59 | |
