Independence Day Parades

As we commemorate Independence Day, we'll be participating in some of the local parades.

On Saturday, July 3rd, we have two parades going on at the same time in Bayfield and in Pagosa. At 10:00am, my wife Debbie and my sons will be in the Bayfield parade and I will be in Pagosa Springs. Bring your horse, four-wheeler, or just come and walk along with us to show your support. You should be there at 9:00am for the line up.

Then on Sunday, July 4th, come and join me in the Durango parade at 6:00pm. You should be there at 5:00 if you want to be in the parade.

Our nation's founding fathers were inspired by God to establish a land of freedom and opportunity. They pledged their lives and their sacred honor to make that happen. I am proud of that heritage and grateful to God and to these brave men and women who sacrificed all they had to give us this great gift. If you feel the same way I do, then walk with me in these parades. Bring your family and friends and let's get some people excited about this message.

I appreciate all your support!

Remembering our veterans

It was 60 years ago today that the Korean conflict began. We and people all around the world are indebted to the brave men and women who have fought to protect our freedom on many fronts.  If you were one of these veterans or are currently serving in the armed forces, I want to thank you for all you have done and sacrificed for us.

I had a great day yesterday starting out with a dedication at the train museum. I met part of the Harper family. The train is a wonderfull asset to our community. The cattlemen's picnic was delicious and fun.  The car show downtown was spectacular and was a benefit for "Hospice". "Who's Your Daddy" was fun and was a benefit for the Discovery Museum. I ended the day by auctioning of pies at fundraiser for the 5th and 6th grade Ignacio girls basketball team. I am always amazed at the generosity of so many in our great community. Keep it up!  Happy Father's Day!

Last evening I attended the retirement party for Lynn Westburg of San Juan Basin Health. When I was a County Commissioner I grew to have the utmost respect for Lynn. She could strech her budget like no one I have ever known. She got most of her funding from sources other than the Counties. She deserves our thanks and respect. The party was attended by many past County Commisioners and health board members as well as many faithfull empoyees, friends, and family. May God be with you, Lynn.
